Unfortunately, due to changes in the API at Travellermap, the graphical features of SectorMaker are no longer working. I don't have plans right now to correct this but might in the future.

I recently got an email asking "is there a third party program or site that can generate xml for a sec file that can then be used for an nsec file in the sector maker?"
Here's my answer: Currently there's no feature to import data into SectorMaker. The .nsec files that it creates are in a proprietary format. I'll add your suggestion to my list of things to do for the next version. Joshua Bell has a nice page on the format I currently use for export: http://travellermap.com/doc/secondsurvey.html He also has a nice page on the possible formats I could use for importing data: http://travellermap.com/doc/fileformats.html On that page the T5 formats are nice because they include the extended data like Importance, Economic Extension, etc. So I wouldn't have to randomly generate this data on import. For the legacy formats I would have to randomly generate the extended data. If you search Traveller Map for a sector and click on the data link at the lower left, you get a text file of T5 data. So this is a good candidate for the kind of file I could import. Let me know of any sources of data you know about that would good candidates for import and I will look at them. So I'll be considering adding this functionality as well as other things in the next version. The Traveller5 star sector mapping application is now available for download. Get it here and go forth and build your empire!
Traveller5 has introduced updated and more detailed rules for constructing subsectors, star systems, and worlds.
The excellent TravellerMap website supports this new format and provides a Poster API to allow the mapping of any arbitrary sector or subsector with user-defined data. So I've decided to create my first Traveller5 application and I'm calling it SectorMaker. It will allow you to specify the stellar density for each subsector in a sector, generate random star systems for the entire sector, and map the results. But that's not all, you can name the sector and all subsectors, create trade routes and allegiance borders, and edit most world data. You can even create individual worlds one by one and place them where you like. Not all Second Survey format data will be user-editable, but the important stuff will be. SectorMaker will not create an entire detailed star system beyond the main world but will include some system data like star types, numbers of gas giants and belts, and the orbit of the main world. I've already completed the design of the user interface and have started coding. I'll be posting progress updates and screenshots in the future. |
